Torsion Galois representations and derived Hecke algebras
Abstract: Recent work of P. Scholze associates Galois representations to torsion classes in the cohomology of Bianchi manifolds and other GL(n)-type arithmetic locally symmetric spaces. More precisely, Scholze constructs a pseudorepresentation valued in the quotient of the relevant Hecke algebra by a nilpotent ideal. We will describe how, in some cases, one can eliminate this nilpotent ideal using homological algebra.
